Obama's girls 'adjusting well' to White House life

President Barack Obama had a big pat on the back for his young daughters on Tuesday, saying they have taken swimmingly to life in the White House.

After more than a year at the US presidential mansion, Malia Obama, 11, and Sasha Obama, 8, have made their dad proud with their ability to balance their private life with life in the public eye, he told NBC television.

"The happiest thing about the past year and a half has been the girls' adjustment. They have just been terrific. They're doing well in school," Obama said.

"They're not as constrained. They can wander around. Their Secret Service protection is a lot more low key," he explained. "So they've got soccer, they've got basketball, they go sleep over at their friend's houses.

"Sometimes I've got 12 little girls screaming on the third floor of the White House. And they made a great adjustment." (AFP)

Madonna teams with daughter Lola on fashion line

When Madonna needed inspiration for her latest fashion collection, she didn't have to look far. The pop icon teamed up with her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes to create Material Girl, an affordable juniors' clothing line that debuts at Macy's this fall.

This is not Madonna's first foray into designing. In 2007, she teamed up with H&M to create a limited edition collection, M by Madonna. This time around, her venture into fashion will be long-lasting: She has launched a new company called MG ICON which, in addition to producing the juniors' line, will also put out other collections including eyewear.

The Material Girl collection includes jeans, shoes, fingerless gloves, necklaces and other accessories. Many of the pieces are inspired by Madonna and her daughter's dance roots.(AP)

Ludacris Motivates Young African Americans as Luda On The Block Visits 5 Cities for the 2010 Census

Can the 2010 Census change the perception of African Americans (AA) who traditionally distrust Uncle Sam? A $300 million effort, the largest advertising campaign in U.S. government history, plans to do just that by enlisting the help of Grammy award winning recording artist, actor and entrepreneur, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges who will explain the importance of taking 10 minutes to fill out 10 questions on the Census to young AAs to ensure that their communities receive part of a $400B allotment every year, of federal support. These dollars help maintain bridges, tunnels and public works, emergency services, schools, and job training using Census numbers that stand for 10 years!

Combining star power and credibility, Ludacris will use his voice to reinforce the importance of 'being counted' to his fans. "I look at our communities now and I see many empty lots, closed clinics, dilapidated schools and an overall breakdown of social services for the poor and elderly," says Ludacris. "Today is a day for change. I plan to knock on doors in various neighborhoods around this country to try and dispel any myths about the Census. It's important that we all stand up and be counted so we can help create potential financial opportunities for our dying communities." (PR)

Beaming Obama signs historic $938 billion overhaul

A beaming President Barack Obama on Tuesday signed a historic $938 billion health care overhaul that guarantees coverage for 32 million uninsured Americans and will touch nearly every citizen's life, presiding over the biggest shift in U.S. domestic policy since the 1960s and capping a divisive, yearlong debate that could define the November elections.

Celebrating "a new season in America" — the signature accomplishment of his White House so far and one denied to a line of presidents before him — Obama made the massive bill law with an East Room signing ceremony. He was joined by jubilant House and Senate Democrats as well as lesser-known people whose health care struggles have touched the president. Obama scheduled back-to-back events to mark the moment, with much of his White House audience, as well as hundreds of others, gathering at the Interior Department for Act II immediately after the signing.(AP)

Telephone' Remix Coming Soon! Says Producer Rodney Jerkins

“I started on an urban version. I’m trying to create something that’s more urban driven to really showcase that you can take any type of creative song and put a spin on it,” Jerkins told VIBE on Monday. “It’s funny because I got inspired by going to YouTube. There’s a bunch of different versions of 'Telephone' that normal people have done and put their twist on. There’s a rock version, a jazz version—there’s so many different versions but no urban version.

“So I was like, I’m gonna go back in and take a stab at creating an urban version of it,” Jerkins added. “So far it’s coming out great, so hopefully ill have it finished this week."

For the sound of the record, Jerkins said he's going for something with edge, along the lines of how the beat shifts when Beyoncé starts singing.
“I’ma definitely half-time the rhythms and [make it] way harder. Way more rhythmic, more in the vein of Beyoncé’s verse,” said Jerkins. “More street, a lot of 808s and then kinda just play around with the vocals, maybe add some new dynamics. Maybe see if I can get Beyoncé to do another verse.” (VIBE)

Diggy Simmons x Atlantic Records

With his mixtape (The First Flight) and countless other singles/remixes (Star Is Born, Point to Prove, Set Me Free) being recognized by fans, yet overlooked by major media outlets, it took the release of his remix to Drake's, "Over" (Just The Beginning), that eventually got Daniel "Diggy" Simmons love shown by said outlets for being "the first" to drop something over the newly then released track. Although people were receptive of his remake of the new single, Diggy still had more hearts and ears to capture and win over, with the goal of letting everyone know that him creating music was not a hobby but a passion and it was something he is great at.

Going back into the studio, the young fashion icon spit a crazy sixteen over Nas' "Made You Look", and unleashed "Flow Stoopid". Linking up with PhilTheGod to create a visual along with the track, Flow Stoopid, was the hit that finally got Diggy more love then anticipated. With cosigns by Lupe Fiasco and Swizz Beatz via twitter and blog postings by Kanye West and Common, Diggy EARNED his buzz that has major companies, labels and the internet wanting to get familiar with him.

Last week the buzz generated rumors that Atlantic Records signed Diggy Simmons, a small statement of denial was released due to at that time it not being true but as of Monday, March 22, 2010, the day after Diggy's 15th birthday, the deal has been sealed; Atlantic Records has signed Daniel "Diggy" Simmons! House sends health care overhaul bill to Obama

A transformative health care bill is headed to President Barack Obama for his signature as Congress takes the final steps in Democrats' improbable and history-making push for near-universal medical coverage.

On the cusp of succeeding where numerous past congresses and administrations have failed, jubilant House Democrats voted 219-212 late Sunday to send legislation to Obama that would extend coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans, reduce deficits and ban insurance company practices such as denying coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions.

"This is what change looks like," Obama said later in televised remarks that stirred memories of his 2008 campaign promise of "change we can believe in."

"We proved that this government — a government of the people and by the people — still works for the people." (AP)

PETA feathers ruffled by Mike Tyson NY pigeon show

An animal welfare group wants New York City prosecutors to investigate Mike Tyson's reality television show about pigeon racing.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says the Brooklyn-based show is cruel to animals and its races could involve illegal gambling.

The show will follow Tyson as he competes in pigeon races. The former world heavyweight champion has raised pigeons all his life but is a racing rookie.

The show airs next year on Animal Planet. A spokeswoman says there have never been plans for wagering on the races. She says the pigeons will be "cherished and respected by their owners," including Tyson.

PETA sent a letter dated March 18 to the Brooklyn district attorney's office requesting an investigation.

District attorney spokesman Jonah Bruno says the office is looking into the
allegations. (AP)

The record-breaking contract through 2017 could be worth up to $250 million if certain conditions are met. One of the albums will be of never-before-released Jackson recordings that will come out in November, the person said.

The double Grammy-award winner, considered the most exciting new pop artist of the last 12 months, said she would take her "Monster's Ball" tour on a second U.S. leg in July, August and September.

Lil Wayne Can't Sign Autographs In Jail

Lil Wayne’s celebrity may have allowed the rapper some preferential treatment during his one-year stay at New York’s Rikers Island. But the multi-platinum platinum MC and Young Money head, who VIBE last exclusively reported has a jail escort with a panic button on his belt to call for backup in case of an attack, won’t be giving any autographs.

According to TMZ, the Correction Officer’s Benevolent Association says a no-autograph policy as been enacted during Weezy’s stay for a gun-possession conviction.

“Lil Wayne is not a celebrity in here,” disclosed a spokesperson.

As last reported by VIBE, every hour, Wayne will have the option to roam the quarters with his escort in tow, or be securely locked in his cell. His cell is 10-by-6 feet and like all sentenced inmates, he is required to wear a dark green work shirt, pants and slip on sneakers.

With good-behavior, Wayne could potentially see a release in eight months.

Lil Wayne begins 1-year jail term in NYC gun case

After saying goodbye on concert stages and online video streams, Lil Wayne had nothing to add as he was sentenced Monday to a year in jail for having a loaded gun on his tour bus.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper delivered only a brief bow to fans and supporters as he was led out of a courtroom in handcuffs to start serving his sentence.

With that, Lil Wayne headed off to face his punishment in a case that had shadowed him as he became one of music's most prolific and profitable figures in recent years. Arrested in July 2007, he pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted he had the loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his bus.

His lawyer, Stacey Richman, said the rapper was resolute as he was taken away.

"He knew what he had to do, and he's doing it," she said.

Lil Wayne arrived later Tuesday at the Rikers Island jail complex, where he was being held apart from the general population of inmates because of his fame. He has a cell to himself but the option of spending time in a TV room with 17 other inmates who also have been separated from the general population because of notoriety or other reasons, according to the city Correction Department. Mo'Nique is 5th black woman to win acting Oscar

Mo'Nique won the best supporting actress Oscar on Sunday for her role as an abusive mother in "Precious," claiming her first Academy Award.

The actress had been considered the favorite to win, having racked up a slew of critics' choice, festival and guild awards for her role in the independent film.
Her chilling portrayal of Mary, a verbally, physically and sexually abusive mother to the title character, had an intensity unmatched by any of the other nominees, who were Penelope Cruz in "Nine," Maggie Gyllenhaal in "Crazy Heart," and Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick in "Up in the Air."

Mo'Nique accepted her statuette to a standing ovation.

"I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics," she said with emotion. "To my amazing husband, Sidney -- thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forego doing what's popular, in order to do what's right." (Reuters)

Lil Wayne set to be sentenced to year in NY jail

Lil Wayne has agreed to go to jail in a gun case, but it has proven unexpectedly hard to put him there.

First, the rap star's sentencing was postponed last month so he could undergo surgery on his bejeweled teeth. Then, a fire shut down Manhattan's main criminal courthouse while he was on his way there last week.

But Lil Wayne is finally set to be sentenced Monday to a year in city jail, as planned when he pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted illegally having a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper, born Dwayne Carter, has been one of music's most prolific and profitable figures in recent years. His "Tha Carter III" was the best-selling album of 2008. His latest album, "Rebirth," was released last month. (AP)

Lil Wayne's Sentencing Rescheduled For Monday March 8th

Lil Wayne's sentencing has been delayed yet again. Now, the rapper will appear before a judge on Monday and turn himself in to begin his one-year prison sentence.

The rapper was scheduled to appear in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday, but a fire at the New York Criminal Court building delayed his hearing.

This is the third delay overall. The rapper was originally slated to be sentenced last month, but his attorney made a last-minute request to postpone the proceedings in order for Wayne to undergo dental surgery. The judge granted the request and rescheduled the proceedings for Tuesday of this week. But when an unexpected fire occurred Tuesday morning at the courthouse, all afternoon cases were pushed back.

A spokesperson for the Office of Court Administration told MTV News Wednesday morning (March 3) that Lil Wayne's case has be rescheduled for Monday, March 8.

Wayne is expected to formally enter a guilty plea to attempted gun possession after he and prosecutors reached a deal in the case in November. He will serve a one-year prison term, and it is widely believed that he could be out in as early as eight months later, assuming good behavior. The rapper was arrested in 2007 on gun charges and was facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The MC star is expected to turn himself in immediately after his sentencing. (MTV)

No charges for Naomi Campbell in NYC driver flap

A man hired to drive Naomi Campbell told police she assaulted him from the back seat of a luxury SUV on Tuesday before hopping out and running away, but the supermodel likely won't face criminal charges.

Police consulted with the Manhattan district attorney's office and issued a harassment report, which doesn't carry any penalty, because no officer witnessed what took place between the driver and Campbell, whose feisty temper has led to previous
legal troubles. They said no arrests were anticipated.

The driver, who also drives Campbell's boyfriend, decided not to pursue the matter criminally. It's unclear if he would pursue it in civil court.
Earlier Tuesday, the man told police Campbell hit him from behind and his head struck the steering wheel of the black Cadillac Escalade, causing bruising under his right eye. He pulled over in midtown Manhattan and got out to speak to a traffic agent, who alerted police. Campbell was not at the scene when officers arrived, police said.

Campbell did not speak to police, but her assistant went to the station house where
the driver gave his account. A spokesman for Campbell, who has previously pleaded guilty to assaulting people hired to work for her, said she would cooperate with police. (AP)
